The Rev. Father Devlin will spend ~£he week-end in the. Lower Hutt parish. Oheamells and .Miss Chennells left Masterton yesterday for Wellington, where they will •-embark on the Marama for Sydney. Mr Chennells intends to pay a visit •to the Solomon Islands. The Rev. At the monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U. yesterday afternoon, a resolution of sympathy was passed to the Be®-. B. F. Rothwell, who has always rheea a close friend and supporter of ■the W.C.T.U. Mir E, P. Lee, Minister for Justiee prior to last election, who was defeated Tor hia seat of Oamaru in November last, will be presented with an illumin.ated address to-night by his former -constituents. Mr Lee represented Oamsaru for 11 years. The members of the British Overseas ••Settlement Delegation, Sir William "Windham (chairman), Miss G. Pott, ■General A. G. Wauehope and Mr J. 'Wignall, M.P., arrived at Auckland from the Waikato, accompanied by IMr J. Hislop, Undersecretary of Internal Affairs, and Mr H. D. Thomson, Under-Secretary of Immigration. The of the- delegation were wel..coined by the Auckland Chamber of ■Commerce and to-day they take their •departure on their return to Australia by the Ulimaroa. jfk&x and Mrs Stanley Bennett (forof Masterton) and family, who are leaving Kaiwaka (H. 8.) to live -elsewhere, were entertained at a large farewell gathering of settlers and -friends, held -in the Tirimoana woolshed. During the ..evening Mr David Whyte, •cm behalf of the .settlers, presented Mr Dennett with a ease of pipes, and Mrs Dennett with a case of cutlery, while the other members of the family each received a suitable present. The singing of “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows,” and three hearty cheers follow--ed.
The late Mr E. G. A.. Hille, formerly 'Of Kurow, -Who died last week at BlenISeim, bad a distinguished career in the :jSoufch African War.
