INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.

POSITION IN THE SOUTH. NO IMPROVEMENT SHOWN. V (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ' DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Tllie influenza position has not improved. In fact, it may be said to be a little worse. The number of notifications for the twenty-four hours ended at noon to-day,-were: Otago 5, Southland 3, Wallace 2. There was one death on Monday. Government departments are seriously hampered, though the municipal staffs have been more fortunate. The warehouses are no,t as badly affected as factories, in which the absence of employees who are the connecting links is causing much disorganisation. All the city primary schools are keeping open, but some in the country have closed. The re-opening of the Boys ’ High School has been postponed for another day. ,

TIMARU AFFECTED. TIMARU, Tuesday. A mild form of influenza is very prevalent amongst school children at Timaru, so much so that the Boys’ High Sehol closed at noon to-dav till Monday next. There are 300 absentees, 20 being boarders.

In the Girls’ High School the absentees represnt about 10 per cent, of the school roll, but it was not considered necessary to close the institution.

The Timaru main (primary) school had 105 absent at roll-call yesterday, but the attendance is slightly better today. Other Timaru Schools have experienced the epidemic to a much lesser degree.
