FLOODS IN WAIKATO
BIG AREA UNDER WATER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Floods have been experienced at Rangiriri, where the Waikato. , river has overflowed. The store and post office combined is practically surrounded, and it is possible to get by boat from the building to river, and the road to the station is practically impassable for motors. The water is rising at Mercer, and increased in depth about three and a half inches on Monday, and that night, many square miles were under water to a depth ranging' from a few inches to several feet. There are no stock losses or serious damage reported, but further rain may make the conditions serious.
A barge containing ninety sacks of coal was washed away from its moorings at Firth’s pumice mill at Ohinewai, and has not been seen since.
