A conference of representatives of the maritime . unions, representing 30,000 members, carried resolutions demanding a Royal Commission to inquire into the foundering ,pf the Sumatra aud other vessels, with power to cover ©very activity in relation to shipping; and also that it be an instruction to all members to immediately notify the secretary of his union of anything of a suspicious nature tending to make a vessel unseaworthy.—Press Assn.
