HIKURANGI STRIKE.
UNION FINED £2OO. STRIKERS HEAVILY FINED. (By Telegraph—Press AssocitMuon.) WHANGAREI, This Day. Contingent on the recent strike at the Hikurangi coal mines, the Inspector of Awards (Mr Joseph Hollows, Auckland) took proceedings at the 'Magistrate’s Court at Whangarei against the Hikurangi Coal Miners’ Union to recover £2OO as a penalty for a breach of the Arbitration Act on the„grounds of abetting an unlawful strike, and aiding in the continuance thereof; also against twelve employees at Foote and Doel’s mine, where the strike originated, including th e president of the Union, as parties to- the unlawful strike..
After hearing lengthy evidence, the Magistrate (Mr Hewitt) imposed the maximum fine of £2OO on the Union and £lO each on the defendant miners.
