Wairarapa Daily Times [Established 47 Years.] FRIDAY, MARCH 23, 1923. EDUCATION OF CHILDREN.

The London Board of Education has made a close investigation of the education system in operation within its sphere of influence and, nas taken the evidence of psychologists 1 , medical practitioners, school masters, school mistresses, and business men ion the subject of education. The committee of the Board which was charged with the investigations made the following recommendations: “Shorter school hours and less homework for girls. Greater attention to art. Facilities for boys who show special aptitude for domestic work to receive instruction under the same condition as girls.” The committee has come to the conclusion that in matters of pure mental capacity there is little to choose between the sexes. “Schoolgirls are more receptive, more initiative, more amenable to discipline, and more conscientious than boys,” says the report, “but are more liable to worry and overstrain. Boys are more independent, unruly, original and creative, and have more bent for reasoning. Under equal conditions, there is every reason to believe that girls can match the achievements of boys.” There was almost general agreement among witnesses that each sox displayed a distinct superiority over the other in certain subjects. The committee reported that the investigations demonstrated that the subjects in which boys and girls show the most ability are: — Boys. Girls. Classics. Modern languages. Geography. English language. Mathematics. Literature. Science. History.
