AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. The Municipal Social Hall was comfortably filled with dancers and athletic enthusiasts on the occasion of the presentation of points and special prizes won at the club’s annual sports gathering, held recently. Mr G. H. Perry (patron) and the Mayor (Mr O. N. C. Pragnell) were presont and presented the trophies, which jjlorle g /ino show, all arrayed on a table at one end of the room. Before making the presentations the Mayor congratulated the club on the successful season it had experienced, and also the very fine, collection of trophies it had acquired, mainly owing to the exertion of the committeemen. It was also a source of gratification to them to know that they nad produced four New Zealand champions at the last championship meeting at Wellington. (Applause). The following prizes were presented: Messenger Memorial Shield. 120yds. — 11. Wilkins, Wellington. Mrs J. Allan's silver purse, 100yds (ladies). —Miss F. Booth, Gladstone. Barr and Harman’s gold medal, E. W. Reynolds’ Cup, Boomerang Cup, Britannia" Cup, and two and three miles New Zealand cycle championship medals. —H. Oakley, Masterton. T. Harvey’s gold -medal, Highland dancing. —Miss Phyllis McMillan, W ellington. G. McKay’s medal, Highland dancing.—Miss M. Morey, Masterton. Chennells Cup, silver medal for second in one mile, and gold medal for first in three miles N.Z. championships. —R. A. Rose, Masterton. N.Z. pole vault championship. —G. Harvey, Masterton. Mrs Hannan’s rose -bowl, most p&ints in ladies’ events. —Miss I. Johnston, Carterton. Bates’ gold medal. —T. Oakley, Masterton. Welch Cup.—E. Grantham, Masterton. Medal, second N.Z. 100yds ladies’ championship. —Miss F. Allan, Masterton. L. R. Nicol’s gold medal. —B. McEwen. Silver teapot for introducing most new members to the club. —Mr J. Harman. - Cycle lamp for boys ’cycle race. —K. Brack. Williams Memorial Shield. —R. A. Rose (Masterton) and E. Grantham (Masterton) tied, and each to hold the shield for six months.

Dancing was indulged in during the evening and a very enjoyable function terminated shortly after midnight.
