The Governor-General and Lady Jellicoe will visit Greytown on Tuesday next. The reception will be held in the Town Hall, the guard of honour consisting of returned soldiers, territorials, senior cadets and boy scouts. The public and school children of Greytown and district will be in the hall. Their Excellencies will be received outside the main entrance by the Mayor and Mayoress, who will escort them on to the platform. .The Mayor will then read an address of welcome and invite His Excellency to address the assemblage. Should time permit, a short visit will be paid to the hospital. A London cable announces the death of Sir George Prothero, editor of the “Quarterly Review,” aged 74. At the annual meeting of the Carterton Tradesmen’s Association last night, Mr J. B. Lawrence was elected president, and Mr E. H. Hawker vicepresident. Miss Mclntyre, relieving mistress in the infant department of the M.D.H.S., is applying to the Education Board for a month’s leave to enable her to visit Australia. At a meeting of the Manawatu Jersey Club, the resignation of Mr B. Cobbe. t'eilding, the hon. secretary, was. accepted with regret, and Mr A. Buchanan, Palmerston North, was elected in his stead. The Country Racing Clubs’ Association has elected the following officers for the ensuing-year:—President, A. Bruce (Thames); vice-president, D. J. Evans (Westland); executive, Hon. E. W. Alison (Auckland), J. E. _ Finney (Nelson), J. Kennedy (Geraldine), and W. Jewell (Foxton). Mr Robert H. Leighton, principal keeper at the Moko Hinau lighthouse, near Auckland, has been appointed principal keeper at Castlepoint. Th e assistant keeer at Castlepoint, Mr Percy R. W. Willers, has been promoted to principal keeper at Portland Island." Mr D. J- Mclntosh (lately first assistant at the Greytown Dairy Factory, in the cheese department) has been selected as manager of the new Pirinoa co-operative cheese factory, oul of 40 applicants. The wedding of Mr Mclntosh to Miss M. Terry was celebrated at the Methodist Church, Greytown, yesterday.
