PACIFIC TREATY.
AMERICAN ATTITUDE. A SENSATION. WASHING TON, Saturday. It now appears likely tlrat several days will be spent over a long discussion on the supplementary treaty excluding the Japanese mainland from tho provisions of the Pacific Treaty. Senator Lodge had hoped for ratification within a few hours, but Senator Hitchcock produced a new sensation by declaring that the adoption of the Pacific Treaty was illegal since the supplementary treaty was like the codicil of a will and the ratification of one without the other void. The Irreconcilables promise a sharp debate.—Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
