POSITION IN IRELAND.
With a spirit worthy of the greatest patriots Ireland has produced, Mr Michael Collins is defending the agreement reached between the British Cabinet and the Irish. lie, advocates loyal adherence to that treaty, and administers some medicine to the malcontents which the latter will.not like. “The talk of a republic had been dropped while British troops were still in Ireland, but now they had gone, shouts for a Republic had again : been raised from a safe foothold,” he said. “Union with Ulster was safe on the establishment of the .Free State, but destroy the Free State and all hopes of union would bo destroyed.” Be it said to the credit of the bulk of the people of Ireland that they are anxious to stand by the terms of the treaty, knowing full well the liberty it gives them to work out their own salvation. Messrs. Collins and Grifliths are doing great pioneering work in shaping the destiny of Ireland, and their efforts will com* pletcly defeat the policy of the antiIrish Do Valera and his gang of assassins to keep alive the policy of murder and robbery in Ireland.
