INTER TRIBAL FIGHT.

A PATROL AMBUSHED. A MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE. (Received Monday, 12.80 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. It is officially stated that an intertribal tight occurred in New Guinea. A chief and twenty natives were killed. A patrol was sent to the district to prevent further trouble, but fell into a native ambush. A skirmish followed, in which three natives were wounded. One was in a dying condition and was suffering so severely, that,, ac'unted presumably by motives of humanity, he was put out of his misery. As the result of this action the patrol leader was charged with manslaughter and sentenced to twelve months’ hard labour. —Press Assn.
