LIQUOR CASES
THE GLADSTONE HOTEL. SEVERAL PEOPLE FINED. In the recent eases against the Gladstone Hotel, heard at a special sitting of the Court, judgment on each charge was reserved. The Magistrate, at Carterton, on Friday last gave his decision as follows: —
Ivy Cooper, licensee of the Gladstone Hotel, for permitting drunkennessK>was fined £5, court costs 7s, and \vitnesSS|’ expenses £1 7s 6d. For supplying a native youth, Naera, under 21 years of age, with liquor, she was fined £2, court costs 7s, witnesses’ expenses £1 ss. For supplying a native youth, Nam an a, under 21 years of age, she was fined £2, court costs 7s, witnesses’ expenses £1 ss. Upon two charges of permitting an unregistered barmaid, she was fined £2 upon the first charge, and ordered to pay 7s costs on the second charge. Roderick Gray, farmer, ol Taratahi, for supplying liquor to a native; was fined £5 and court costs 155., . Archie Montgomery, farmer, of Gladstone for supplying liquor to a native, was fined £5, court costs 15s, witnesses expenses £5 4s 3d. ' Lily Jane Cullen, milliner, of Carterton- (2 charges), Archie Montgomery.U charges), Hardy Lancelot Meredith, farmer, of Gladstone (2 charges), E. Perry (2 charges), were each fined -us,, with Court costs 7s and witnesses’ expenses £i os, for supplying liquor to two native boys under 21 years of age.' In giving his decisions, the Magistrate commented upon the . manner in which the hotel had been conducted, find pointed out that had i 1 not been for the fact that the place wa: changing hands, ho would have ordered an endorsement on the license.
