TIMBER POSITION.
GREATER OUTPUT. As much misunderstasding on . the -subject of building timber -continues among the public in various parts o± Tifae Dominion, the chairman ot the Board of Trade (Mr W. G. McDonald) Aas given a brief summary of the facts. This statement shows that though the supply for the needs of New Zealand is not yet able to meet the abnormal demand, the output has increased .appreciably by comparison with the figures of 1917-18 (which exceeded those ■<if 191 S-19), the last year of the war s call on man power. The output of building timber (nmu, ■kauri, matai and totara) for the year ended March 31st, 1920, was 200,4L,459 superficial feet, as against 108,4/0,680 ffor 1917-18. Thus the increase tor 1919-20 was 55,633,872 feet (41.4 per 'dent). : ; ■... ... • “A very "satisfactory aspect of this J increase.” continued Mr McDonald, is Win the fact that the proportion of buil-*-ding timber exported for 1919-20 was only 51 per cent, compared with . 23 per in 1917-18.
