The watjCrsiders responded to the call for labour this morning, and work was resumed oh all the vessels in port. i • EMPLOYERS’ POSITION. Referring to the coal deadlock in the course of the debate on the War Regulations Continuance Bill in the House of Representatives last evening, Mr Massey stjited later that on the previous evening the lion, member for Buller (Mr H. R. Holland) had said that the employers were conspiring to pre\ent ccial being discharged. But that allegation was absolutely incorrect, and an injustice to the men concerned. fir Holland: I know that it is absolufely tnni, and I think that you know it, too. Mr Massey: Well, I. don’t kuow it. Mr Holland: I think you do. Mr Massey': The statement is absolutely contrary to fact. The trouble arose over! a cargo of superphosphate. ■ Mr Holland: And then the employers held u|> the coal. (Hear, hear and dissent) add laughter.) ' Mr P. •ij’raser (Wellington Central): Yes; the employers hung up the coal. (Hear, hesjr, and dissent.) Mr Holland: Do you deny it? Mr Massey * said that ltd was not. there, to blame anybody.
Holland: Do you justify the action.'of tlil> employers? Mr Massey said that lie was- not there to justify the employers. 1 Mr Fraser: That is wliat you are there for, and you arc doing your job Well. (“Oh, Oh!” Hear, hear, and laughter.) j
