BOROUGH COUNCIL.

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary 7 meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening, there being present: —The Mayor (Mr IV. H. Jackson), and Crs. O’Leary, Perry, Burridgc, Candy, McLeod," Atkinson, King, Watson and Henderson. The Ladies’ Division of St. John Ambulance was given permission to place a cupboard in the lecture room at the Municipal Hall. The Eltham Borough Council wrote asking for support of a resolution in regard to local bodies’ interest on overdrafts, urging that provision be made for Council funds being placed into tlie district fund. The Mayor explained that at the present time, if a Council had a credit in one fund it could not set it off against an overdraft at the bank. • The resolution aimed at bringing about provision in this connection.

It was decided to support the Eltham resolution, and to forward a. copy of the resolution to Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., asking his support also. In reply to a letter it was decided to inform the Wairarapa Hospital Board that the engineer had stated that he could not proceed at the present time with the work of erecting the swing bridge over the Waipoua. It was decided to aproach the Government to pay half the cost of a substantial fence round the open air space at Kuripuni. The Council decided to draw the attention of the Sanitary Inspector to noxious weeds, such as blackberry, within the borough boundaries. A letter was received from the Minister of Industries and Commerce requesting the Council to support the Princess Alice stall at the Albert Hall Bazaar, London, in aid of Dr. Barnado’s Homes. It was resolved to do as requested. Mr. .T. Archer, Borough Engineer, wrote stating that he would bo prepared to supervise the works for a period of three weeks if the Council so desired. —-Accepted.

An application from Mr. George Butcher, butcher, regarding a holding paddock at the abattoirs, was referred to the Abattoirs Manager.
