NO MORE COAL. FROM RAILWAY DEI‘A RTM ENT SUPPLIES. At the meeting of the Alasterton Borough Council last evening, the Mayor (Mr W. H. Jackson) read the telegram (previously published in the “Daily Times’’), in which he had appealed to the General Manager of Railways for coal t-o carry on the work' of the gasworks in the .recent coal jerisis.
A letter was-a Iso. read from Mr AlcVillvL informing the Council that, owing |o the -state of the Railway. Department’s coal -supplies, stocks of coal from: the railway-would not in future be available-to any local .body in a future Shortage: .Ho advised, the -Council to mjnke arrangements with the Coal Controller for future supplies. -Air AlcVilly; stated • that he understood that supplies of. Newcastle coal had been refused by . certain gasworks because of the high freight. Thje Mayor: ‘‘Now, that’s very eornfortmgq.isji't it-’”- • .*; A .Councillor: “ Well, whjtt shall we .do with- the letter ’’ •Ailother Councillor: “Oh, receive it. The Alavor: “Tliat-’s all it deserves.” The letter was thereupon P received.’ '1 ... ■
