.BOARD OF GOVERNORS. [PARENTS’ REPRESENTATIVES. At the meeting, of'the Masterton Couheil last- evening, a, letter -Ffrom -the secretary of -.the- • Progress requesting the Mayor to call a piSRe meeting of parents to elect the parents’' representatives on the- Board of Governors of'the Masterton High, .School, was received: The Mayor stated that. the proper course to pursue in connection with the Selection was the one he had taken, and ■which was followed in every high school election. He explained what, he had Hone in the matter. He said that eyerv parent had been forwarded a nomination paper, and these nominations had now been returned. They would lie opened, and then the election held. fCr. Burridge stated that the matter was surely no concern of the Council’*, it being chiefly a matter for Mr dack--Bon, as Mayor of the town. • The Mayor: “Oh, yes. It affects .lis.”
Cr. Burridge: “They call upon you iis Mayor of the town to hold the meeting, not as the representative of the CounciL”, , The Mayor: “Oh, well, you eun take it »*you like.” B matter.then dropped. -Vlotter was also received from the ■secretary of the Education Department, requesting the Council to appoint a representative on the, Board of -/Governors. T ‘ Cr. O’Leftry moved that Cr. Candy •be appointed the Council’s representative. Cr. Watson proposed that the Mayor represent the Council. —Cr. Atkinson seconded. Cr. Candy; “It is appropriate that 'the Mayor of Masterton should be the representative of the Borough Council —that is, the Mayor in each succeeding term.” , The Mavor agreed with Cr. Candy that the Mayor of Mastcrton should bo the Council’s representative on the Board of Governors during his term of .office. , Cr. O’Leary later withdrew his nomination of Cr. Candy, stating that he had not given full consideration to ; the question. The Mayor'was thereupon elected as the Council’s representative, it being ; agreed that the 'Mayor of Mastcrton •each term be the' Council's representatißon the Boat'd of Governors. W " THE NOMINATIONS. The Mayor (Mr W. H. Jackson) and the Town Clerk (Mr T. T. Denbee) last evening opened the nominations for the parents’ representatives on the High School Board of Governors. Thirty-six, papers, were received, npmiV»ating the following seventeen candidates:—Messrs R. H. Burridge, Masterton; R. C. Drummond, Lansdowne; A. H. Vile, Masterton; A. C. Major, Upper Plain; T. Moss, Eketahuna; 0. ’N. C. Pragnell, Masterton; E. Hale, Masterton; Richard Brown, Masterton;' A. T. P. Hubbard, Fernridge; W. H. Jackson, Masterton; Alex. Hendry, Masterton; T. F. Watson, Lansdowne; D. K. Logan, Lansdowne; F. J. Hunn, Masterton; D. A. Pickering, Lansdowne; J. A. Connell, Carrington; D. Tlireadwell, M asterton. LAs Mr Thomas Moss has already been appointed one of the Wellington Education Board’s representatives, and the Mayor (Mr W. H. Jackson) was appointed last evening as the Masterton Borough Council’s representative, only fifteen nominees remain eligible for election. Mr A. C. Major informed a “Daily Times ” representative this morning t he had been nominated without hMonsent, and that he did not desire to lie a candidate. He, therefore, wished his name to be withdrawn from the list of candidates.
