STRIKE OF WELCH MINERS. SETTLEMENT ARRIVED AT. Press Association—Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Reuter's Telegrams.) LONDON, Monday. A strike of 15,000 miners in the Rhynmey Valley, in Wales, has been settled, and a threatened general stoppage lias thus been averted. MELBOURNE STRIKE. 120,000 MEN IDLE. (Received Wednesday, 9.50 a.m.) MELGOURNE, This Day. It, is estimate dtliat 20,000 men are idle, tlirough the strike, though there are only 2uuO men actually out Oil strike. The decision of the employers to act unitedly has resulted in a hardening tendency, and is minimising any gleam of compromise. A strikers' deputation to the Premier accused the latter of taking sides with the employers. Mr Law-sop, denied the impeachment, insisting that he only endeavoured fo keep the )iublic buildings going. Cabinet has refused to intervene in the dispute, asserting that the principle of deciding industrial disputes was at stake. Therefore the matter should be determined bv tlie court.
