PUNJAUB REBELLION.
GENERAL DYER CRITICISED. Press Association —Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Australian and E.Z. Cable Association. ) iSTMLA, Thursday. The report of the committee which inquired into the Punjaub rebellion lias been published. The publication was withheld till now, owing to the tension existing over the I urkish peace terms. The document contains majority and minority reports. The former states that General Dyer committed a grave error in ordering his troops to lire on the crowd at Amritsar. This is practically the only serious censure in the majority report, which is signed by European members’of the committee. The minority report, signed by three Indian members, condemns martial law as a. system of terror indicted on the people. The majority- report justifies martial law-, though there is no evidence of organised conspiracy to overthrow the British Government. The majority- members of the committee consider that General Dyer honestly believed he was doing right m difficult circumstances. WEARY WAILS OF TIN HATS. LONDON, Thursday. Gcnoial Dyer declines to on the Hunter Report beyond saying that events will justify- him. The military view strongly supports General Dyer. Sir George Younghusbaud declares that General Dyer took the only- possible step to stop the native rising, and the whites in India, especially- the women, thank him. Sir O’Moore Creagh, a former Com-mander-In-Chief in India, says “Sedition in India will be encouraged by this damnable report. General Dyer s action w-as absolutely essential.”
