MANAWATU RAGES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Wednesday. The Maltawutu autumn meeting opened to-day in fair weather. The going was very holding after the previous three, days’ rain. There was a fair attendance and the totalisator handled £41,699, as against £36,095 for the same day last vfiar. Results: — Apprentices’ Plate, 7 furlongs. 2 Sea Foam (G. Corkill) J, 1 Island 2, 3 Castellan 3. Also started —6 Niuteroni, 4 Gay Patron, 5 Lord Desmond, 7 Rouen. Won by half a length, the third horse being well back. Time, 1.32. Ivarore Hurdles, 1;[ miles. —b Zola (Copestake) 1, 4 Sweet Tipperary 2, 1 Yankee Jack 3. Also started- —5 Explorer, 2 Sail Home, 3 Hautawa, 7 Gaekwar, 8 Yucatan. Won very comfortably at the finish. Yankee Jack and Sail Home were well back. Time, 3.23.
Prince of Wales Handicap, 1 mile and a furlong. —8 Dainty Step (R. B. Morris) 1, 4 Marquoteur 2, I Bonnetter 3. Also started —6 Oratress, 2 Lingerie, 1 Trespass, 3 Daytime, J Goldshine, 12 Demos, 5 Eisingham, 9 Old Gold, 11 Detroit, .10 Haversack. The winner led all the way and won by a head at the finish. Bonnetter was a length away third, and Detroit fourth. Time, 2.0. Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes, 6 furlongs.—3 Little River (11. Gray) 1, 4 Demand 2, 6 Insurrection 3. Also started —1 Humbug, 2 Raceful, 5 Blackmail, 7 Riouse, S Quip. Won by half a length, after a good finish. Insurrection was a length away third. Time, 1.17 (the slowest in the history of the race). Linton Handicap Welter. —6 Valencia (Goldfinch) 1, 7 Sweet Song 2, 14 Whizz Bang 3. Also started —2 Simon, 12 Self Alliance, 8 Amberine, 4 Molyneux, 3 Farce, 1 Rebuff, 5 Persian Prince, II Guianform, 9 Mannikin, 13 Student, .10 Dixie Boy, 15 Donuybrook. Won by half a length, in a good finish. Whizz Bang was close up third. Guiauform and Self Alliance fell. Teh latter brokq a leg and was destroyed. Time, 2.5. AWAPUNI GOLD CUP. Miss Gold led for half the distance and then gave way to Amytlias and Arrowsmitli. These fought every yard of the rest of the journey, and in a great finish the former w'on all out by a bare length.
