Mr R. Liverton, of Blairlogie, MastertoA, will leave for America and England Uy the Niagara in a fortnight. The Wairarapa P. and A. Society has -decided to ask Mr J. C. Cooper, of Masterton, to represent them at the International Conference of Slieepbreeders .at Darlington (England) on June 2Sth. At the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Union on Saturday night Mr R. J. Southgate, president of the Eed-Btar Club, was elected president of theJUnion. Mr and Mrs F. Jensen, Mr and Mrs ■>£?.- King, and Mr E. Richards, of Masterton, were aboard the steamer "Wes* iralia. which grounded in Banks Strait ■during the voyage to Melbourne last week.
At the monthly meeting of the gen- ■ ■eral committee of the Wairarapa and East Coast. P. and A. Society on Satur--day it. was decided to increase the salL. Smart (secretary)’ from (Jf£!oo per annum, and to grant him a bonus of £25 for his past services. The members eulogised the secretary’s work. The Prime Minister announced, after u meeting of Cabinet on Saturday, that the portfolio of External Affairs had been allotted to the lion. E. J'. Lee. 'The portfolio of Justice'was already held by Mr Lee. The Department of External Affairs, which was broughtexistence last year, is concerted -at present with the administration of Samoa. Mr Lee visited Samoa withthe Parliamentary party. One of ahe most popular send-offs that has been given in Alfyedton took place on Wednesday night last, when the residents bade farewell to Mr and Mrs Geo.- Jones, who are leaving to take up their residence in Paliiatua. The hail, which was packed, was artistically decorated Japanese lanterns and sunshades, interspersed with greenery. Visitors were in attendance f roof' all the surrounding districts, which showed how popular the guests were. Softer supper Mr S. M. George made tffittle speech, and presented Mrs Jones with a gold wristlet watch, and Mr Jones with'-an engraved set of hairbrushes.
