The marriage of Miss Freda Bedman t daughter of Mr and Mrs F. F. Bedman, of Masterton, to Mr Frank Hodge, formerly of Masterton, Avill take place at |he Congregational Church, Masterton, on January 7th.
Mr W. G. Shepherd, manager of tne Drapery Department of the Wairarapa fW Farmers' Co-op. Association in Eketa- * huna, has purchased a business in Napier, for Avhich place he expects t» leave in February.
A Christchurch telegram announces the death of Mrs General Mite, aged 41. Deecased, AA r ho was ,3ft 3in high, and weighed 2st 41bs, made her first appearance in public in 1891 in the Isle of Man. Subsequently she appeared- by royal command at Marlborough House before Edward VII., and also before royalty on the Continent. Her death; occurred while boarding a tram in the city. With her husband, General Mite, she toured the Dominion some year* ago.
We have received from Wynyard (Tasmania) a copy of* the " Wjnyard Advocate," 1 which contains an account of a presentation to Mr J. S. Laing, wha arrived in Masterton last week to take up his duties as manager of the local branch ;i the Bank of Australasia. Tk* presentation took the form of a handsome illuminated address and a cheque for £75. There was a large and representative gathering, and many expression of deep regard were utterance to. Particular stress was laid. upon 4he valuable assistance and act- flf vice rendered by Mr Laing to the Agricultural Society, the Spencer Hospital, Turf Club, Tennis Club, Progress Association and Bowling Club. Opportun- , ity was taken of this occasion by tl» many Jady friends of Mrs Laing ta present her with a beautiful gold wristlet watch*with monogram, an autograph album, and a handsome handbag. la making the presentation, in a characteristically happy speech, the Key. BA. Salisbury voiced the sentiments of all present in reference to the excellent work which Mrs Laing had carried out during her residence in Wynyard, Although he quite agreed with all thai; had been said about Mr Laing, he was sure that it would not have been possible for him to have done so much. had. it not been for the help and inspiration he had received from Mrs Laing.
