NEW ZEALAND SOLDIER SPEAKS OUT.
WHAT GENERAL RUSSELL
THINKS OF PROHIBITION
Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, X.C.8., K.C.M.G., G.0.C., N.Z. Expeditionary Force, 1915-19, Avritihg on November 24th, 1919, said:—
"I am of opinion that drink, as tho word is commonly used, is one of the chief obstacle of leconsl ruction, and I have come to the conclusion that National Prohibition is ne-
ccssary''
"I shall vote for it on specific grounds, on the material ground that drink entails much human wastage and impaired human efficiency, and
so interferes with production, the chief need of the day; and the moral ground that seeing the trouble and often misery caused to others as the result of drink, the least one can do is, for the sake of others, to make the personal sacrifice iin-olved in Prohibition."
