MR NEWMAN AT FOXTON.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

FOXTON, This Day,

Mr E. jSTewmaii addressed the electors last night. There was a fair attendance, and save for a few interjections he had a good hearing.

Mr jSTewman advocated the acquisition of the Urewera country for settlement, and the establishing of light railways. Though this would be a breach of the Treaty of Waitangi, the Government could fully compensate the Maoris with other land of equal value. At the conclusion of his speech a motion of thanks, but of no-confidence in the Reform Party, was moved, but an. amendment of thanks only was declared carried by the chairman.
