THE CLUTHA SEAT.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Monday. Mr John Christie, the Liberal-Labour candidate for the Clutha seat, addressed a meeting, at "Balclutha on Saturday evening. He opposed the co-operative system of carrying on public works, which must have cost millions extra. He also opposed the wholesale destruction of forests. He contended that wheat production had been bungled, and he estimated that seven million bushels would require to be imported t"his year. He was strongly in favour of a State Bank, and suggested that the Repatriation Board should be kept in existence to make arrangements for the settlement on the land of anyone who had a desire to settle. He opposed the floating of war loans free of income tax. He favoured children up to ten years being carried on the railways free. He considered provision should be made for the reception, of nien \t ith. families landing in the Dominion. He favoured a modified system of nasi >nalisation of the coal mines. He suggested issuing licenses t,o traders with a view to stopping profiteering. The candidate was accorded a vote of thanks.
