Jay Dwiggins, a photoplayer who had appeared in many Paramount and Artcraft pictures, died suddenly at a Hollywood picture theatre on Monday, September 8. i Thos. Dixon, author of The Birth of A Nation, attacks free love in his drama, The One Woman, Clara Williams has the leading role.

As in Daughter of the Gods the elaborate Fox production in which she was last featured, Miss Annette Kellerman, the Australian swimmer, in Queen of the Sea, another Fox offering, is given ample scope to exhibit her prowess in the water in particularly attractive settings. One of her feats for the picture was an 85ft dive into the sea at Bar Harbour, Maine.
Mary Thurman, the former Mack Sennett comedienne, was .recently playing opposite W. S. Hart. It is stated that the receipts at Strand Theatre, New York during the week's run of The Hoodlum, Mary Pi'ckford's First National picture, was screened, totalled £16000. This Is believed to be a record for a Broadway picture theatre. One of the most successful Fox pictures yet released is said to be Evangeline," a version of Longfellow's poem, with Miriam Cooper in the title rob?. Old Lady 31, tho play recently produced in Australia, is to be filmed by Metro as a Screen Classic with ;:u all-star cast. This will be the th'rd Rachel Crothers play adapted to the screen by Metro, the others 1 being The Three of Us, and A Man's World, in which Emily Stevens was featured. Clarino Seymour, who appears as Cutie Beautiful in The Girl Who Stayed at Home, is probably the smallest adult actress in pictures to-day. Her height is 4ft 9in, and her weight is 6st. 21b. Miss Seymour complains that her shopping for ready-to-wear apparel is practically confined to the purchase of pocket-handerkerchiefs. ' "Smiling Billy" Parsons, whose comedies have been well received in New Zealand, is dead. Under his will a number of shares in National Film Corporation, of which he was the founder, are bequeathed to employees. Mr Parsons leaves a widow, known to the screen, as Billie Rhodes, whom he married earlier in the yera.

Edith Hallor has been starred in a version of Anne Crawford Flexncr's play, The Blue Pearl, to bo released by World Pictures Corporation. Miss Hallor, who has already been seen on the screen, is a former "Follies" girl. Every actress has an idea how a correct' interview should be written, and says to herself, "If I ever write such an article for a magazine it' will not be th e old stereotyped method of asking questions" (writes Louclla O. Parsons, in New York "Morning Telegraph"). Madame Olga Petrova, being gifted with a talent for writing, has been engaged by one of the motion picture magazines to write what she considers the right way to conduct an interview. Her first subject, Norma Talmadge, met Madame Petrova at luncheon at the Chatham, and over their tea the two stars Conducted this interview.
The second step to encircle the world with Selznick Pictures—the first was the opening of the Selznick Pictures, Ltd., office in London last week —will be taken on October 14, when D. .). Se.lx.uick, former manager of the Select branch at Boston, Phil Selznick, former Cleveland salesman ,and Hyman Fine, former Boston salesman, sail from San Francisco to establish the headquarters of Selznick Pictures, Ltd., of Australia, in Sydney (says Chicago "Exhibitors' Herald".) This will constitute the first direct representation that Selznick Pictures have had in the Antipodes and the Far East. A powerful organisation will be built in that territory.. D. J. Selznick will be general manager of distribution, Mr Fine office manager, 'and Phil Selznick director of exploitation and sales.
