PERRY STREET.
WTDENTNG PROPOSAL.
At the meeting of the Masterton -isChamber of Commerce yesterday an im-
•jortant matter, that of widening Perry .street from Queen street to Chapel •street was brought up by Mr D. M. draham. In moving that the Chamber
«*£ Commerce support the Mayor of
his efforts to accomplish H|h@ wide—hag -of Perry street, Mr Gra- . ham said that if the work were delayed the cost would increase. The proposal was to widen the street for 16 feet •from. Cragg's Corner to the corner of
_erry and Chapel streets. The work
would be an undoubted improvement to : ,the town, and the Chamber should support the Mayor whole-heartedly in the vsnatter. Mr Graham said that the Bor««ogh Council might be asked to apl.proaeh the Public Trust with the ob-
Jeet of persuading that body to set ■the building it proposes to erect sixfeen _eet back.
Mr R. Brown said that there was no vpower to compel the Government to <ieo_ply with the request in regard to tthe Public Trust building. Tho Government took care of that, and did :_ot pay much heed to by-laws. Mr J. Allan, in seconding the motion, thought the, present time a most apportunc one to give effect prorposal, as the erection of important buil- ■■ dings in the street was comtemplated.
In time Perry street would become one frfr>jf the most important aud valuable *W streets in Masterton.'
After further discussion the motion "was carried, and it was decided to forward copies of the resolution to the IPublic Trust Office and the Borough
Council.
