Colonel C. J. Cooper, C.8.E., has relinquished the appointment of Coast Defence Commander, Lyttclton. Mr A. Johnston has been appointed caretaker of the Dixon Street baths by the Masterton Borough Council. Mr A. Eddie has been elected piesident of the Pahiatua Horticultural Society for the third year 'in succession. Mr George 11. \eale, crier and custodian of the Supreme Court at Wellington, died yesterday morning after a short ilhiess. Mr P. -Huntor has been appointed to represent the Wairarapa A. and P. Society at the annual meeting of ,the N.Z. Kennel Club at Wellington on Nov. 2S. The death occurred in Wellington on Monday evening o f Mr Alexander Vαterton, father of. Mr W. Paterson, of Masterton. The deceased was 68 years of age. The death occurred at a private hospital in Wellington oti Monday of Lady Atkinson, widow of tho late Sir Harry Albert Atkinson, K.C.M.G., who was Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1887 until IS!)]. Tho deceased lady was born in I!S:>S, and coming to Now Zealand she was nuivvied at New Plymouth 54 years ago. She had been in indifferent health for some time. Her family consists of Mr Harry Temple Atkinson, of the Patents Office, Wellington, and Mrs Frank Waldegrave, at present in England. Another son was Captain Arnold Atkinson, who was killed in action in France.
