WANGANUI DISTURBANCE.
MAORI SOLDIERS GAOLED.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, Wednesday.
As a sequel to last night's disturbance, threo Maoris, John Waldron, Te Mana Taputoro, and Rapita Martene, appeared before the Magistrate's vourt to-day, the two former charged with obstructing the police in tho execution of their duty, and the latter with using obscene language and obstructing the police. The men were sentenced to two months ' imprisonment each. Tho three men are returned soldiers, and the magistrate remarked that a uniform or a returned soldiers' badge was not going to save them or be a cloak for larrikinism. It would be wrong to treat such actions lightly; it would bring the uniform into disgrace. When wearing uniforms men should behave like gentlemen, not like larrikins. There was too much of this sort of thing going on throughout the Dominion. Tho police were not to bo interfered with when doing their, duty.
