COSY THEATBE
"THE WHIRLPOOL."
An unusual love interest in the chief characteristic of the latest Select foa,ture in which Alice Brady ie the star player. It is entitled "The Wliirl])oo!,'' and is now shewing at the Cosy. The p.tory deals with the struggles of a young girl brought uj- amid the temptatntiont; of a gambling - house conducted by her uncle. Although her soul revolts at the task, she acts as a decoy. One of the habitues of the house is accused of murder, and as he had been the girl , s lover she sets out to find evidence to free him, but in doing so she encounters the judge who is to try the accused. In the end a genuine love attachment grows up between the judge nnd herself, and they get married. It is then that the judge learns of the girl's past, und he believes she lias married him in order to influence his decision in favour of the man who had been her lover of the gambling house. The dramatic situations are strikingly strong, and the emotional part of the heroine is played by Alice Brady with fine effect. The dresses and settings are sumptuous. The seventh episode of "The Eagle's Eye" is as exciting as the previous chapters, and brings further and interesting data into the story. A good comedy is being screened in "Ain't It So?"
PAEAMOUNT THEATKE
A SIX-BEELE ItSUPEK-DKAMA
The current programme at tho Paramount includes the six-part drama, "To Him that Hath," in which Montague Love plays the part of David Aldrich, a young author, who assumed the guilt of a theft to save the memory and tho work of his Philip .Morton, founder of a growing East Side mission. Aldrich is in love with Helen Chambers, daughter of one of the patrons of tho mission, ami when he is sent, to tlu; penitentiary for the crime her affection naturally wavers. When David finally is released, and it is made to appear to IFeleii that David is training a young boy to become a thief, her love is further strained. Eventually it is proved that David i.s guiltless of the theft and lie was not teaching the boy how to become a thief, and everything ends h-appily for David and tho girl he loves. "Her Finishing Touch" is a boisterous comedy. There are several other good films, including a coloured study of bird life.
