THE WAGES QUESTION.
MASTERTON BOROUGH STAFF.
AN AliLr-BOUND INCREASE,
At the special meeting of the Masterton Borough Council last evening the question of revising the wages of the whole of the borough staff came up for discussion. The matter of the stokers' wages was first dealt with. Cr. Burridge moved, and Cr. Atkinson seconded, that the stokers be given a rise, of Is per shift. Cr. CVLearv moved us an amendment, and Cr. McE-eod seconded, that the stokers be given 2s per shift. The. voting on the amendment, which ■was carried by ;" votes to 4, was as follows: — Ayes Noes Cγ." O'Leary Cr. Perry Cr. McLeod' <>. Burridgo Cr. Candy 'V. Atkinson ('r. Watson < 'r. King (';-. Henderson i in regard to the wages of the rest of j the gasworks staff, Cr. .McLeod moved and Cr. O'Leary seconded that the men be given an increase of ~s per day. i'r. Henderson moved as an amendment, and Cr. Burridge seconded, that the men receive an increase of Is per day. The amendment was carried. (V. living moved, and (Jr. Perry seconded, that all other employees on the borough staff receive an increase of Is per day. This was carried.
