NEW COAL FIELD.
NEAR RUNANGA
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, This Day.
For some time past boring operations have been in progress' on the Nine Mile Seam, and results have far exceeded •anticipations. An analysis-of the coal shows the very best quality, and superior* to that obtained from the Liverpool mine. As steam coal it will prove equal to the best New Zealand.
Tho area covered by the new field shows a "very extensive outcrop, and boring demonstrates at least thirteen million tons of coal, a sufficient supply for twenty years.
Tho mine is three miles from the Runanga station. The country is flat, and there are no engineering difficulties in tho way of railway construction. The mine could be put in full working order in twelvd months.
A large meeting was held at Runanga last night, at which the Mayor presided and Mr Holland, M.P., addressed the meeting on the new coalfield.
A resolution was carried that in view of the fact that the Elizabeth mine is practically worked out, that there is a serious shortage in the Dominion, and that famine prices rule, the Government be urged to proceed with the ment of Nino Mile Seam.
The resolution is to be forwarded to the Acting-Premier and Minister of Mines.'
