W.C.T.U.

The following is the report of the local delegate to the W.C.T.U. Convention at Napier:— The 34th convention of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, held in Napier, closed on Thursday, having been favoured with brilliant weather throughout. Tho election of officers resulted in the return of all the retiring officers to their posts. A membership campaign was insistently urged. The previous year Dunedin District Union secured the most new members (61), gaining the membership banner, four feet long, of beautiful design, which, with seven other banners (among them ours from Masterton), graced St. Paul's school room, where the convention sat. Edendalo Union won the banner (larger and of more handsome make than the former), presented for gaining the largest percentage of new members. Invitations from four Unions for the 1920 Convention were received, that of the Wellington Union being accepted. The Convention heartily supported a large number of suggestions for reform _in our educational system. Christian citizenship was one of the constant notes struck throughout the Convention —the personal responsibility of those'who enjoy the privileges of citizenship to shoulder the duties which Christian citizenship imposes on those who derive so much benefit therefrom. At the afterservice meeting in the Princess Hall, Napier, held by the Convention on Sunday, 27th April, twenty-eight members joined the Union, and seven male honorary members, 35 being enrolled. Votes of thanks were passed, in the last session, to all who had made the Convention so pleasant and profitable. "All Round the World Our Ribbon White is Twined was sung at the close.
