THE SHIPPING PROBLEM

Official: Mr Massey, while in London this week, interviewed the Shipping Controller as regards insulated tonna,ge for the Xew Zealand export trade. Following upon the interview, Sir -T P. Macla.y (Shipping Controller) now states that it is anticipated there will be available for loading in New Zealand during April ,May and June thirty vessels, representing a total space of about nine million cubic feet. The proportions of allocations are as follow: — April seven steamers ,with .1,800,000 cubic feet; May, eleven vessels, with three million feet: June, twelve, and probably thirteen, vessels, with, fouv million feet space. It must be understood, however, that the allocation is provisional, as the movements of vessels are uncertain owing to strikes, quarantine, and. other delays.

The Premier also interviewed the First, Lord of the Admiralty, the Colonial Secretary, and the I'resident of the Board of Trade on naval questions*, the Pacific Islands', and commercial matters.
