NEW ZEALAND CASES.
(By Telegraph—Presß Association.) WELLINGTON", Thursday. A serious case of influenza was re ported hero yesterday.
Pour cases were reported from Wai roa in the middle of January.
Dr. Watt, District Health Oflteer, said that because oi" its great virulence and the fact that so much of its natural food had been removed by the death of people predisposed or susceptible to contagion, we may not. have a recurrence of influenza in New Zealand. However, it is quite on the cards that the disease may recur in the winter.
The District Health Officer stated that of the whole contingent of Karotongans who arrived by the Malta only eight developed light pneumonia symptoms on the voyage from Fremantle, and of them five recovered on the trip, leaving only three affected when the vessel arrived in Wellington. When the Health Officer visited Somes Island on Wednesday only one case showed a temperature, and nothing serious at that. The three cases are recovering satisfactorily. The men were not, affected by influenza pneumonia at all, the symptoms pointing to the ordinary influenza, to which coloured races are predisposed.
