SMUGGLING FIREARMS,

A remarkable cane waa heard at the* Bow Street Police Court. William Boxrow, manager of the Midland Gun Company, Birmingham, and John Mc3iath, railway goods clerk, of were charged under the Defence of the*" Bealm Act with dealing in war material without a permit.

The prosecuting counsel said it waa» alleged that the defendants were engaged in endeavouring to import arms into Ireland.

The correspondence seized showed that transactions between the defendants had been going on since 1916.

The police, on the 11th of the presem* month, saw McGrath meet Borrow at the Rugby station.

The latter put two parcela aboard the Liverpool train and handed MeGratfes a note bearing a Liverpool address, enclosing £100.

The police examined the parcels, which contained twelve revolvers, 12,----000 rounds of ammunition, and thirty ponnds of explosive amburite.

It was stated that tie police searched McGrath, who was carrying two revolvers and a Sinn Fein membership eard^
