INTERNATIONAL LABOUR.
IMPORTANT CONFERENCE

Sir J. G. Ward attended a special conference of British delegates at the Peace Conference, ami British Labour representatives, including Messrs Barnes, Thomas and Henderson, "who are giving attention to a tentative scheme to regulate international labour.'
The scheme aims at securing the establishment of an international minimum of standard. The immediate objects include the appointment of a • preliminary Commission by the Peace Congress to enquire into the question of the international adjustment of labour condtions ; and also the creation cf a permanent bureau with a Council drawn, from Britain, France, America, Italy and Japan, and arranging conventions. The principal practical aims include the prohibition of nght work for women and chldren.
Sir Joseph. Ward explained the advanced labour conditions in New Zealand in regard to the protection of women juvenile workers and the social legislation.
The conference appreciated Sir J. Gr Ward's explanation.
