CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.

ORDINARY MEETING.

The ordinary meeting of tho Coimeii was held on Saturday last, there being present:—-Civ- G. H. Inues (chairman). A. G. i'ilmcr, W. G. Groves, ?. Schofickl, C. iS'. Stilborn ami E. 11. Scholield, .Li'uve of absence was granted to Cr. A. Brightwell.

'I no Council was advised that provision had been made by the Minister of I'llL)lie Works for a grant of £41)0 (£1 for £1) towards the cost of repairing mo four bridges damaged by the earth-

quake. The district engineer wrote requesting to be informed as to the standard of bridges, culverts, formation, fencing and metalling, whica is being insisted upon by the Council for construction of private roads, before same are accepted for dedication.

The Under-ttecretavy of Public Works forwarded a copy ot a proclamation re the taking of land for a road, and the closing of a road through the Waitawhiti and Anuedale estates.

A letter was received from H.M. Trade Commissioner, requesting information as to the motor cars and cycles registered by the Council during the past year. Is hie applications wore received for the position of overseer. After consideration of same, the Council decided to invite two of the applicants to meet a committee of the Council, with a view of appointing one of them to the vacant position.
