SUCCESSFUL BRITISH RAIDS.
LONDON, Monday. Mr Philip Gibbs* writes: Tho English, Australians, Canadians, and New Zealanders are sharing in tlie raids, with a view to discovering enemy dspositons and damaging their lines. We are taking numerous prisoners. We find that tho Germans are beiug doped with stories of the brutal way in which tho Britisb treat prisoners. Even Germans of normal intellgence belove tho futstic aallegatlons. As an example, New Zealanders win brought back prisoners from a, raid were amazed at the terror of tho Germans, which only disappeared when they were well fed and'kindly treated, as is the invariable custom. The Germans then confessed that, their officers had said that the New Zealanders wero cannibals, who first offered cigarettes and then ate their prisoners. The New Zealanders noticed that tin; Germans at first refused cigarottos. The New Zealanders hugely onji.yed the joke at the expense of the-v reputation, though they were staggered by the credulity of the German soldiers.
