BOOT-MAKERS' PROTEST.
AGAINST INDUSTRIAL CONSCRIPTION. (By Telegrsph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Monday. The Bootmakers' Union held a stopwork meeting to-day to discuss the pro. posal by manufacturers at the Auckland conference. A resolution was passed protesting against the action of employers in introducing what the union considers industrial conscription, inasmuch as they debar an employee from obtaining employment in another factory without first receiving permission, and pledging themselves to support their representatives in any action they may take to abolish the practice. The meeting resolved to endorse the action of the representatives in refusing the wages and conditions offered, and also decided to request the Federated Council to consider the advisability of cancelling registration under the Arbitration. Act.
