A MILITARY OPINION
(Australian and M.Z. Cable Association.) BONBON". Thursday.
A hiuh British military authority, in "tiis weekU review, after s-tatinu' that the eneiv.v's etl'orts to got the ridge on the right" tlauk of the Cambiai battlefrout was almost a complete failure, and. our position is satisfactory, remarks: — 7Mrile it is true that troops are steadily coming from the east front, they are not coming in hundreds of thousands, tsuch talk omits to take account of the transport and coal dilliculties. The enemy is still a long way from superior to the* Allies on the west front. "However, we must expect a German offensive on a more considerable scale than formerly; but there is no reason to suppose that he will inflict such casualties on us as we inflicted on him in our offensive. '" Reviewing the work of the year, the authority says:—"Tho Allies hold most of tbe high ground and ridges, and their positions' tire better than ever before. But the public must be prepared for the possibility of lo.s'intr some ground and guns in the event of a big enemy offensive. "The Italian position has improved. Time is on our side there. "Altogether, the position is satisfaetorv. "In regard to Palestine, General Alleuby is now eleven miles north of Jerusalem, in .difficult country. "Unfavourable weather will prevent n considerable forward movement until ihe weather improves. ''
