CAPTAIN OSCAR GALLIE,
Captain Oscar Gallic, M.C., of Masterton, has been killed in action. Deceased wan very popular on account of his many sterling qualities. Ho went- to Samoa, as a private, boing attachod to tho artillery. Subsequently he went to England and joined the Imperial artillery. Ho saw strenuous lighting in France, and by sheer merit won his commission. Eising from tho ranks himsolf ho was tho staunch champion of the rankers. Ho was a prominent boxer, athlete and footballer. Ho was a member of th»> Keel Star Football Club. He also carao into prominence as an elocutionist in Masterton. Deceased was a "sport" iii every sense of the word, and his death will be received with feelings of deep regret by those residents of Masterton who knew the genial " Oscar. ••" •
