CONDITIONS IN CONSTANTINOPLE
A neutral correspondent to-day has something interesting to say concerning the conditions existing in Constantinople, though,.of course, after the many, stories which we have lately heard concerning conditions in enemy countries, hiß statements will be received with a certain amount of reserve. He points out that foreign trade is at a standstill, and that the scarcity of food has necessitated the introduction of food cards, which the Turks are said to object to. Swindlers are sending Government stores to Germany, and the scarcity of food is causing very high prices to rule—sugar being 8a per pound and tea 40s. This neutral correspondent gets nearer the truth than in probably many of his other statements
when he says that thepcople are strongly anti-German, though they are afraid to show it.
