ON THE SEA.
THE JUTLAND BATTLE
LONDON, Wednesday
In the House of Lords, Lord Rutland asked whether the Government intended to move that the thanks of Parliament- bo passed to the Grand Fleet in connection with the victory at Jutland. The resolution was, he said, especially necessary owing to the undeserved feeling against the Fleet, due to'tiie Admiralty's unfortunate wording of tho announcement of .the battle.
Earl Crewe said the Government thought it wise to postpone formal tributes to the British commanders, though tho thanks of Parliament would bo a
most fitting expression of the nation's pride and gratitude at the naval victory. All desire to assure the Fleet how heartily they recognise the consummate strategy of Admiral Jellicoe and the subordinate commanders. The devotion and coolness of all ranks had reduced and battered the German fleet, which was' only saved from destruction by darkness. We were still unchallenged in the command of all the seas.
Lord Charles Bcresford supported Lord Rutland's suggestion. Officers and men felt the results of the deplorable despatch most keenly. Yet itwas tho finest action over fought in history.
