RED CROSS NEEDS FOR WIRELESS TROOP.
An appeal for Red Cross comforts for the wireless men in Mesopotamia—an appeal which is all the more urgent when remembering the news appearing from Mesopotamia in the cable columns within the last day or two —has been received from the late Lieut. W. R. 11. Clarke, OHicer Commanding tho New Zealand Wireless Troop, whose death from fever was announced on Thursday. The appeal was forwarded to Mr Combs, written on April 27th, and is as follows: —"I am Avriting to you to ask you to appeal on behalf of the troop for 'Red Cross Comforts Funds.' We are in the unenviable position of being without any regimental funds, and as this country i.s likely to 'play up" with some of the boys (iv fact, has been doing so already), funds are urgently needed to enable me to purchase comforts for them. The funds would also be devoted to the, purchase of various comforts for the march, and as small sections of the troop will have, on occasion, to work on their own, their comfort and welfare would be greatly enhanced were those -funds available. Would you see what the members of the Department would do? 1 can assure you that anything that can be done will be greatly appreciated." In response to this appeal an energetic committee from the Wellington Post and Telegraph Department is organising a patriotic dance for the purpose of raising funds for this object.
The Masterton P. aud T. Staff is taking similar action for the purpose of assisting this worthy object.
