LONDON, Sunday
The "Morning Post" says that there is an unprecedented situation in South Wales. Tho men demanded an advance in wages of 15 per cent, and the owners asked for a reduction of 7' per e.ent.
Mr Runeiman (President of the Board of Trade) sent Sir G. Askwith to interview the coal owners. He suggested that the coal owners should give a rise in wages of 15 per cent without pre-
judice
The owners protested against the Government's violation oi its own agreement of June and July, 1915, and object to any advance without enquiry into tho facts, stating that if tho Government makes.a coueession they must accept the responsibility. The Government's decision amounts to a forced settlement over the coal owners' heads.
