A Melbourno cable announces the death of Mr John Norton, proprietor of "Truth."

Mrs P. R. Cook, who has been away from Masterton for some mouths during Dr. Cook's absence with the hospital ship Mahcno, has returned to Masterton.

Mr F. 11. Wood, chairman of tho Epsom Road Board, Auckland, and formerly of Masterton, who became ill shortly after his arrival in Wellington last Saturday week, and has since been in the Thorndon Private Hospital, has almost recovered.

-It- John Hopkins, who 60 successfully organised the Patriotic Carnival <M at Masterton, will leave to-morrow for Wellington, en route to the South Island, where be will conduct the tour of the noted war lecturer, Mr Frederick Coleman.

A Press Association cable front London states that Sir Thomas. Mackenzie attended a memorial service to Sir John Gorst in Saint Margaret's Church. He also sent a wreath on behalf of th. Government to the funeral.

The friends of Mr and Mrs A. V.Faulknor, of Masterton will regret to learn of the death of their infant daughter, Irene Nola, which took place this morning. The funeral will leave the residence, Lincoln Road, at four o'clock to-morrow afternoon.

Captain T. McCristell, quartermaster at Trentham, and formerly of Masterton, has been appointed to succeed Major James o'Sullivan as Director of Ordnance" Stores at Buckle street, Wellington, whilst the latter officer assumes the duties of Inspector of Ordnance Stores throughout, the Dominion.

The many friends of Mr-C. A. Tabuteau, of Masterton, will learn with deep regret of her death, which took . place early this morning. The deceas- JM ed lady, who was 67. years of age, had. been a sufferer for many years, but had borne up with great fortitude. Sho was highly respected and esteemed by a largo circle of friends, who admired her many sterling qualities. Widespread sympathy will be extended" to the bereaved husband. The funeral will leave the residence, Albert Street, at 11.30 on Wednesday morning.

The following members of the Masterton A- and P. Association have been elected delegates to the annual conference of the New Zealand Couucil of Agriculture, to be held in Wellington in July:—Messrs Q. Donald (president), Hugh Morrison and J. C. McKillop.'

The death occurred yesterday, at the Masterton Hospital, while undergoingan operation, of a girl of 9 years of age, named Gwendoline Fitzsimmons, daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Fitzsimmons, of Wauganui. The deceased, who was a nieco of Mr and Mrs G. Braggins, of Mauriceville, was on a visit to the latter when sho was taken ill about ten days ago; and was the Masterton Hospital. Some days ago she underwent one operation, and another operation was being performed yesterday when the little girl succumbed.
