CHRISTMAS CHURCH SERVICES
LONDON, Monday
At the special Christinas Day services, Yen. A. B. O. Wilberforce, Archdeacon of Westminster, explained that l.iis prayers were for the German people. "We are iiot praying," he said, "that they will he vanquished or punished, hut that they will he emancipated from the curse of Prussian ism, and. that they will strike off the fetters of cruel military despotism which oppresses them.
'Dean luges, preaching at St. Paul's, called the attention of the nation to the great campaign of economy which we must face. It was a certainty that Great Britain would emerge from the war very poor. To do something useful, make good what was lost and make the present a wholesome training school for the next generation should bo their aims. Canon Carnegie said the most painful lesson of the war was Great Britain's Jack of a strong intelligent leadership. The selection of! men to lead the nation should have beeu more in the hands of tho people.
