Activity on the Western Front
Operations in the Dardanelles are confined Inainly to mine-sweepers. The Russians are bombarding Turkish forts in the vicinity of the Bosphorus. *.* ■ Austrian attacks on the Russians in the Carpathians have all been repulsed. The German offensive west of the Niemen has. been stopped. One German amy corps was annihilated. At other points the Russians have obtained minor successes. In the west there has been another bombardment of Nieuport, with little damage done, while in the neighbourhood of Beausejour and in the Argonne there have been artillery duels and bomb-throwing. . , It is reported that the Kaiser has succeeded in inducing Emperor Pranz Josef to cede territory to Italy.
