FIGHTING IN EGYPT.
HEAVY LOSSES OF TURKS
TURKISH ARMY IN FULL RETREAT
LONDON, Tuesday. The Press Bureau at Cairo reports that the enemy's losses in the at- , tack on the Suez Canal were heavier than at first supposed. It is difficult ' to estimate the number, owing to the wide area of the fighting, but over 500 were killed, including six drowned and found buried. Of the 652 prisoners taken, one hundred were wounded. Deserters are constantly surrendering. The four Turks who have crossed the canal have given themslves up. The Turkish army is in full retreat eastwards, and no enemy forces are within 20 miles of the canal. Even at that distance only small fragments remain, and are retiring steadily. The retreat is probably due both to discouragement over the defeat and lack of water in the desert. Whether an attempt will be made at a second attack cannot yet he determined.
